In the world of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), it isn’t all that rare to have a celebrity backing a cryptocurrency. Floyd Mayweather has backed three different crypto plays, ODB recently launched Dirty Coin with the help of his son, and household names such as Ashton Kutcher, Gwenyth Paltrow, Mike Tyson, and Jamie Foxx have all been a part of promoting Initial Coin Offerings.
This type of endorsement has been taken to a new level, however, as the creators of dietbitcoin (DDX) have secured the endorsement of Roberto Escobar, the brother of notorious Drug Lord, Pablo Escobar. Roberto is backing the coin, not only for the financial incentive but also for sociopolitical gain. Along with his endorsement, Mr. Escobar has launched a book titled Pablo Escobar’s Diet Bitcoin. In this book, among other things, Roberto claims that Bitcoin was not actually created by Satoshi Nakamoto, but was instead created by the CIA.
Stepping away from the endorsement and controversy for a moment, dietbitcoin (DDX) is operating as something known as a Hard Fork of Bitcoin. Basically, this means that it works on a new blockchain of Bitcoin with slightly different protocols. The creators of the coin are stating that dietbitcoin (DDX) will have faster transfer speeds than Bitcoin and that fees associated with making transfers will be less expensive as well. They don’t go into detail on how this will be achieved. These benefits, however, seem to be their main pitch as those two statements appear numerous times throughout their online literature.
As for the technical aspects of this Initial Coin Offering (ICO), the makers of dietbitcoin (DDX) are launching the coin in four stages. An initial ICO Crowdsale sold 1,000,000 coins. The second stage is a Pre-ICO Round One sale where 300,000 units will be sold at $2.00 USD per coin. The third stage is a Pre-ICO Round Two sale where 300,000 units will be sold at $100.00 USD per coin. The final stage is the actual Initial Coin Offering and in this stage, 400,000 more coins will be sold at a price of $1,000 USD per coin. As this is being written, the coin is in the Pre-ICO Round One stage.
A pool of dietbitcoin (DDX) miners have yet to be cultivated by the makers of the coin, but it appears that they will need to get that sorted out fairly quickly. The stated goal of the ICO process for dietbitcoin (DDX) includes the distribution of 2,000,000 coins, but the total supply is expected to be approximately 21,000,000.
